Goldwork Cap progressing nicely

I've been having such fun playing with lovely metal threads last week! I'm working on a new cap, based on a design drawn by Thomas Trevelyon using metal threads. The cap will be a combination of gold and black metal threads, so it looks a bit like a coif that provided inspiration, which is a combination of blackwork and gold.IMG_7855The one above is stitched with passing thread and a DMC thread called Diamant. It comes in various colors, the one I've used above being a black and gold twist.IMG_7854This leaf (above) is worked with chips of gold and black check in the center. The veins are black and gold twist which has been couched down. The edge of the leaf - which you can't see very clearly - is passing thread. The sparkle is so fabulous, isn't it? And I love doing chip work - it's like making a mosaic but with bits of gold.IMG_7856The most recent leaf is filled with a trellis using the same DMC Diamant thread but this time it's all black. I like this thread a lot - it has body and stiffness while still being relatively easy to stitch with. At the crossing points of the trellis I've use bright purl thread to "couch" down the trellis. It's not quite finished but I love it already!
