Silk and Sunshine

It was a great weekend for stitching. I woke up Saturday morning full of energy and have stitched and stitched.  I got so much done that I even began to think about what I was going to do with the border of the cap - something I've been trying hard NOT to think about so I could focus and get the four panels finished.Sunday afternoon, I took the frame out onto our terrace to take photos in the late afternoon sunlight. I just love how the silk shines in the sun, especially when the sun is low in the sky so the stitching casts a small shadow on the fabric.Amazing to see a shadow cast on something as tiny as one of the little flowers that's only 1/2 inch across and doesn't seem to have any height to it at all. But, of course, our stitching is dimensional and,  given the right conditions,  the sun and the camera capture it beautifully. When I downloaded the photos and looked at them on the computer screen, it got me to thinking about how the Trevelyon Cap would be displayed when it's finished. The panels will be stitched together and lined so the cap is finished just like a real one would have been.  I'm hoping my father can make some kind of  miniature wooden hat stand for it to be displayed on. I can envision the whole thing - stand with cap - sitting on the table my great grandfather made in our living room with a light on it so the silk glows and the gold glitters.Of course, whatever I choose for light - whether it's an LED or a candle - it won't match the beauty of silk in the sunlight. Funny how nature makes everything more beautiful!
