Now that the new school year has begun, I’m thinking ahead to planning things on weekends and during school holidays. Like many of you, I have a calendar where I attempt to keep track of appointments, parent evenings, school concerts, the fall festival and, of course, any stitching events I want to attend.
Yesterday evening I added a new event to my own calendar: my dear, sweet husband booked flights and a hotel room for us to go to Dublin for the Knitting and Stitching show November 3 and 4, 2012! It’s his way of saying “Congratulations”! Aren’t I lucky?!
There are a few new events on the fall calendar, including two courses offered by Heart of Embroidery in Rugby, UK. I’m sure there are more that I don’t know about so if you have a moment, please use the contact page under the “Events” title at the top right side of the home page to inform me of anything you think we would enjoy!
Yesterday afternoon I came home from school and there was a comment waiting for me from Ann. She wrote (in part)
“I found your blog because I am looking for an embroidery class or group. I have just moved to Shrewsbury in Shropshire and can find classes in most counties apart from this one. I am a complete beginner.”
Oh, I remember when I first returned to embroidery and I would search the internet looking for classes and workshops where I could learn and meet other embroiderers. The very first class I took then was with Phillipa Turnbull in Burford at the Burford Needlework Shop. I was thrilled to have found a class!
I still spend a huge amount of time looking for classes and workshops that I can attend. Ann’s comment got me to thinking…Our community is huge, with people from all over the world, who attend workshops and classes. Could we maintain an updated list of classes, including links to web sites with further information, on The Unbroken Thread?
If you look at the top of the page you will see a new menu item entitled “Events”. When you open that page you will see a calendar in list form with events under the appropriate month. If you scroll down to the very bottom of the page, you will find a form where you can enter information about needlework classes, workshops, exhibits, etc.. that looks like this.
There are quite a few events entered already. However, I am aware of mainly the events that happen in the UK since it’s the nearest place I can go to to take a course. We need to know about events in the USA, Australia, the rest of Europe, Asia…just about everywhere, so we can provide information to all the members of The Unbroken Thread Community.
