The crewelwork woodpecker is the second to last bird to embroider on Loveday. The colours are some of my favourites – black, grey and red. The stitches are also lovely because, if you do them carefully, they look just fabulous!
The bulk of the body is embroidered in slanted satin stitch. “Why slanted satin stitch?” I hear you ask.
As you know I usually take photos as I’m working. However, the deadline is looming large and my time is being eaten away by school like I’ve never experienced before. Teaching a new subject (English) and a higher level music course has been far more demanding than I anticipated! What this means for you, dear reader, is that I stitched and stitched and completely forgot to take any photos of the steps as I went along!
This last crewelwork leaf is so pretty, isn’t it? I love the mix of colours with the addition of the deep red and the bright orange: perfect colours to be stitching as autumn begins. This leaf varies a bit from the others in that it doesn’t have any seeding in the centre and the outline is in green rather than blue.
