Gold work preperation: pounce

After getting the silk stitched on the calico and framed up, the next step was to transfer the pattern to the silk. The first step is to trace the pattern onto tracing paper with a sharp pencil.Once the design has been drawn onto the tracing paper, it's time to prick holes in the paper so the pounce can fall through onto the fabric. The easiest way to do this is to place your pattern on a carpeted floor and use a #9 needle to prick little holes directly onto the lines of the pattern. In the photo above you can see that I've pricked holes through the pattern where I want the pounce to go through (red arrow) but haven't pricked any holes around the edge of the leaf. This is because the leaf will be padded with felt and the felt will be cut to the shape of the leaf. I have pricked four points to show me where to place the felt leaf onto the pattern in the correct place. (blue arrow)After the pattern is pricked onto the paper, the next step is to apply the pounce to the fabric. Rather than explain that process, I've made a video to show you.
